Texas county backs Tesla's $10 billion solar factory with tax breaks of up to 35 years
Tesla's proposed $10 billion “Project Crystal Sun” solar factory in Texas could get up to 35 years of local tax breaks on its equipment, according to four agreements Fort Bend County commissioners approved Thursday by a 4-0 vote, Electrek reports. Tesla still has not committed to building the plant. The vertically integrated factory near Richmond, southwest of Houston, would make everything from silicon ingots to finished modules, with commercial production targeted for Q1 2029. The school district approved its tax piece in September. The agreements include a Chapter 312 tax abatement that abates 100% of county property taxes on Tesla's equipment.
