Elon Musk has put at least $445.77 million into Republican-aligned political action committees and groups since last year, according to Federal Election Commission data as of 29 October cited by the Guardian, making him the largest single-cycle political donor in modern US history. The paper notes the sum dwarfs megadonors such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg and could buy more than 31.9 million cheeseburgers at the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles. The money backs keeping Republican control of Congress, though current polls predict a Democratic majority. Last year Musk said he would step back from large political donations after putting nearly $300 million into Trump's 2024 campaign.
