Silicon Valley Democrats demand investigation into Starlink restrictions in Ukraine
Silicon Valley House Democrats have demanded the White House investigate recent interruptions of Starlink's military-grade Starshield service in Ukraine, according to CNBC. In a letter to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, the lawmakers called for an immediate government-wide investigation into the decision to restrict the satellite-based intelligence and military support services.
Ukrainian officials told CNN that restrictions remained in place despite President Trump's claim that access had been restored, and said the limitations were disrupting high-speed military drones and hampering Ukraine's ability to intercept Russian attacks. The lawmakers wrote that neither the administration nor SpaceX had provided a clear explanation of responsibility, and questioned whether a private contractor made life-and-death national security decisions or whether the president directed the restriction.
The letter indicates Democrats will make investigating the Starlink interruption a top priority if they win the House in the November 3 midterm election, and will scrutinize federal funding awarded to Musk's businesses. They asked who authorized the restrictions, how they were implemented, whether they violated federal contracts, and whether similar vulnerabilities exist elsewhere.
