Tesla made napping in a Robotaxi easier with its latest update

Tesla's quiet mode, which blacks out the screen for passengers who want to rest, has expanded from the Cybercab to Model Y Robotaxis, according to Teslarati. A video posted Thursday shows the feature operating in a Model Y Robotaxi during a night ride that appears to be in Dallas.

The rider activates quiet mode by tapping a crescent moon icon, which removes the map, media player, app shortcuts and Grok prompt while keeping essential controls visible, including Pull Over, cabin temperature, volume and Support. The display shows "Arriving soon," the destination, and a prompt to tap to exit quiet mode. Tesla has not published release notes for this change or for a separate update that makes turn signals chime only for the first four blinks.

Elon Musk has discussed the ability to sleep during autonomous trips since 2014, and in April 2025 called it the "acid test" for full self-driving, expressing confidence it would be available in many U.S. cities by year-end. Driverless Model Y rides have been operating in Dallas and Houston since April, and Tesla is offering new riders a free first trip in both cities. The company also indicated Cybercab rides would launch in Dallas next month.
