Silicon Valley Democrats demand investigation into Starlink restrictions in Ukraine
A group of Silicon Valley House Democrats has demanded the White House investigate recent interruptions of SpaceX's Starshield satellite service in Ukraine, according to CNBC. The lawmakers sent a letter to the chief of staff calling for an immediate, government-wide probe into who ordered the restrictions that limited Ukraine's military capabilities, including disrupting high-speed drones and hampering front-line operations.
Ukrainian officials told CNN the restrictions remained in place despite the president's claim that service had been restored. The Wall Street Journal reported the restrictions were ordered by Musk and lifted after a phone call with Trump, though the president has denied directing any disruption. The lawmakers wrote that neither the administration nor SpaceX has provided a clear explanation, leaving open whether a private contractor made life-and-death decisions or the president directed the restriction of critical military communications supporting a U.S. ally.
The letter asks who authorized the restrictions, how they were implemented, whether federal contracts were violated, and whether similar vulnerabilities exist elsewhere. The Democrats indicated they will make investigating the interruption a top priority if they win the House in the November midterm election, including scrutinizing federal funding to Musk's businesses and contractual compliance.
