Cybertruck driver stopped in Germany, ‘Monster truck’ not allowed on roads
According to Electrek, a Tesla Cybertruck was stopped by police in Germany because the vehicle lacks type approval for European roads. The truck violates pedestrian protection regulations and exceeds the 3,500kg gross vehicle weight limit for a standard class B license, requiring a C1 license for vehicles up to 7.5 tons instead.
A Swedish driver was pulled over near Vaterstatten in Bavaria while holding only a class B license. The vehicle, registered in Poland, was not limited to the required 90 km/h maximum speed. Police prevented the driver from continuing the journey, and fines were likely imposed. German privacy laws required police to obscure logos on the wrapped vehicle in published photos.
Electrek reports similar incidents have occurred elsewhere in Europe, including a seizure in the UK and an attempted transport through Lithuania. While some owners obtain individual approval in one European country to drive across borders, the article notes this still exposes drivers to legal complications when operating the unapproved vehicle on European roads.
