Musk accuses Ukraine of violating Starlink terms with deadly drone strikes
According to Ars Technica, Elon Musk accused Ukraine of violating Starlink’s terms of service by employing the civilian satellite network for offensive drone strikes that killed people.
SpaceX had recently limited the service so terminals could not operate above certain speeds, but Ukrainian officials said earlier restrictions already made such use impossible; a defense adviser noted a 70‑90 km/h speed cap and that Starlink does not function over Russian territory, calling Musk’s claim physically impossible.
President Zelenskyy later announced the speed limits had been lifted, restoring Starshield performance above 400 km/h, while a former defense advisor said a whitelist system required all moving terminals to use the military Starshield network, not commercial Starlink. Musk maintained that Starshield is controlled by the US government and that Starlink remains essential to Ukraine’s front‑line communications.
