Tesla appears to be preparing to sell US-built Model 3s in Canada again

According to Electrek, Tesla Canada has updated the Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive specifications on its website to show 584 kilometres of range and a 0-100 km/h time of 5.2 seconds, matching the Fremont-built Long Range RWD previously sold in Canada two years ago. The Shanghai-built version, unavailable for order since early October, was rated at 463 kilometres and 6.2 seconds.

Orders for the Premium Model 3 RWD are currently paused because Tesla has exhausted its federal import quota, with the website stating orders will resume if the government issues more quota, expected in March 2027. Canada's 25 percent counter-tariffs on US-made vehicles remain in effect since April 2025. When those tariffs were imposed, Tesla raised the Model 3 Long Range AWD by $11,000 and dropped the US-built RWD model entirely. A Fremont-built Premium RWD with similar markup would land around $65,000 to $67,000, exceeding the $50,000 transaction cap for the new federal EV Affordability Program. Currently, only the Model 3 Performance at $74,990 is available for order in Canada.
