SpaceX Falcon 9 launches early morning Starlink mission from California (video)
A Falcon 9 rocket launched 27 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit from Vandenberg Space Force Base at 3:25 a.m. EDT on Oct. 27, according to Space.com. The booster, designated B1082, separated about 2.5 minutes into flight and landed on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship in the Pacific Ocean at T+8:23, marking its 21st Starlink mission and 26th flight overall. Previous missions for this booster included USSF-62, OneWeb Launch 20, NROL-145, and Transporter-18.
The upper stage performed a second burn 53 minutes after liftoff, lasting three seconds to circularize the orbit before deploying the payload. Space.com reports the Starlink network now consists of more than 11,000 active spacecraft, though launch cadence has slowed as the company shifts focus to Starship development. Plans to retire Falcon 9 have begun, including ending Starlink launches from Florida earlier this year. This mission was the 117th Falcon 9 launch of 2026, with roughly three-quarters dedicated to Starlink.
