Tesla Semi catches fire on I-880 with no crash, closes freeway for 10 hours

According to Electrek, a Tesla Semi caught fire on a California interstate without any collision, closing the southbound lanes for about ten hours while the lithium‑ion battery burned. The driver was unhurt. The highway patrol shut both directions over hazardous smoke concerns, reopened northbound the same night and southbound early the next morning, beating an estimate that the battery could burn 15 to 18 hours. Photos showed foam around the burned tractor and a charred trailer. The operator is unidentified, Tesla has not commented, and the cause is under investigation.

A similar Semi fire in August 2024 on another California interstate followed a crash and required 50,000 gallons of water. Truck fires are common, but with only about 86 Semis delivered, a second no‑crash blaze in two years is a key data point. The NTSB investigated the earlier incident and should examine this one, while Tesla should publish its findings.
