Tesla Assisted Driving expands to tenth EU country
According to Teslarati, Tesla has expanded its Assisted Driving system to Latvia, the tenth European Union country to approve the technology. The approval follows a provisional European type approval from the Netherlands' RDW authority in April, with Latvia's Road Traffic Safety Directorate evaluating the Dutch documentation. Tesla implemented updates including tighter speed offset limits, automatic resets of manual speed adjustments, and enhanced driver monitoring.
In Europe, the feature is marketed as Tesla Assisted Driving after regulators deemed the "Full Self-Driving" name misleading. The system remains an SAE Level 2 tool that controls speed, steering, braking, lane changes, and intersections while following a navigation route. Drivers must continuously monitor the road and be ready to intervene immediately.
Most countries have relied on mutual recognition of the Dutch provisional approval. These national clearances do not constitute bloc-wide authorization, which requires a qualified majority in the Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles. Larger markets remain under review, with a vote expected in December. For Latvian owners with compatible vehicles, the imminent rollout expands access while underscoring that attentive human oversight remains essential.
