Elon Musk’s Grok Bot is picking up the phone now, and the first calls are wild

According to Teslarati, Elon Musk's Grok Bot can now call US businesses for users, a feature rolled out this week after an October announcement. In one demo, the bot navigated Comcast's phone menu, rejected upsells, and used a competitor's offer to lower a bill from $84 to $45 monthly, saving nearly $500 annually during a 25-minute call that paused for user approval. Other users reported recovering a $100 gift card from Verizon Fios after a 51-minute call and booking a same-day pediatric appointment, though one representative refused to cancel a subscription upon realizing an AI was calling.

The bot must identify itself as a virtual assistant and works only with US numbers. The rollout comes as users hit weekly limits early, with Musk stating serving costs are "unsustainably high relative to revenue" despite previously calling Grok Bot the fastest-growing product he has seen. Paid weekly users reached roughly 800,000 this month, more than doubling, while daily active users climbed from under 100,000 in early September to over 600,000 by late October. Grok Bot is included in X subscription tiers from $30 monthly and has been in Tesla vehicles since September 22.
