Tesla opens new “Cybaer” Engineering Center in Berlin
Tesla has opened its Berlin Engineering Center in the Köpenick district, consolidating four engineering sites and 30 labs onto a single campus about 30 minutes from Giga Berlin. According to Teslarati, the project moved from permit to operational in under a year and represents the company's third such hub after Fremont and Shanghai. The center combines materials, powertrain, vehicle engineering and validation under one roof to create a short feedback loop between development and production ramp.
The facility occupies converted production halls of a former cable factory with an initial team of about 250 engineers and technicians, most relocated from existing Tesla facilities including Tilburg. Tesla has applied for approval of a second phase to increase headcount to roughly 500 and reports a total investment of €100 million. Labs cover battery cells, motors, materials, complete vehicles, and safety testing including airbag components. The center will handle technical problem solving for Giga Berlin while developing and validating parts for vehicles built in China and the United States.
