Tesla accused of selling FSD to Korean owners who can’t legally use it
According to Electrek, a South Korean consumer group plans to ask the Korea Fair Trade Commission to stop Tesla from marketing its Full Self‑Driving system to buyers whose cars cannot legally use it. The group says Tesla has sold the feature to most customers even though only a small share of the fleet is eligible.
The gap arises because only U.S.-built models received the feature under a trade agreement, while the China‑made Model 3 and Model Y, which dominate sales, lack local certification. Tesla's own testimony shows the system works on about 20 percent of registered vehicles, yet the company has collected FSD payments from ineligible owners for over three years.
The complaint also requests fines and a referral to state investigators. The fair‑trade agency has already opened a probe into Tesla's advertising, and the transport ministry says the current system violates domestic safety rules. A court recently dismissed a refund suit, blaming Korean regulations for the missing features.
