Isaacman: Hubble must not fall uncontrolled, and Starship could one day bring it home

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman says Hubble must not be allowed to fall back to Earth uncontrolled. Speaking to NASASpaceflight after NASA asked industry for commercial options to reboost, service or deorbit the telescope, he said any funded visit should boost it and get "as much science as you possibly can out of it." Hubble now runs on two of its six gyroscopes, and drag is expected to bring it down in 2033 to 2034. Isaacman noted that NASA studied his own Polaris Program proposal and did not pursue it in 2024. He did not rule out that someone could one day bring Hubble back for a museum, a goal NSF says is no longer a wild dream thanks to SpaceX's Starship. Responses are due by the end of November.
