Tesla cancels Cybertruck in Australia and NZ after 7 years of deposits
According to Electrek, Tesla has cancelled the Cybertruck for Australia and New Zealand, informing reservation holders that their orders are void and that deposits will be refunded within 30 days.
Reservations began in November 2019 with a A$150 deposit; a crowdsourced survey placed the region third in reservations, about 3 % of the total, which reached around 2 million by 2023. Tesla closed the Australian reservation page in May 2022 but did not issue refunds until now. The vehicle is only built in left‑hand drive, and right‑hand‑drive certification would be costly given low sales volumes of roughly 7,000‑8,000 units last quarter.
As a consolation, Tesla offers a free one‑year FSD (Supervised) subscription to reservation holders who order a Model 3 or Model Y. The company has only launched the truck in left‑hand‑drive markets such as South Korea, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and Israel, while it remains blocked in the EU.
