Elon Musk throttles Grok Bot limits due to ‘unsustainably high’ costs
According to TechCrunch, Elon Musk said the cost of serving Grok Bot became unsustainably high relative to revenue, prompting a reduction in weekly usage limits.
Over Halloween weekend users found their limits maxed out, with some reporting usage jumping from 50 percent to 100 percent, and Musk confirmed on X that this was not a glitch. SpaceX’s recent filing showed AI now accounts for 52 percent of company income, and its renamed Super Intelligence division posted a $431 million profit, though $1.2 billion in one‑time costs from the Cursor acquisition reduced that figure. Musk called Grok Bot the fastest‑growing product he has ever seen but has not yet explained how subscriber limits will change.
