After Texas' blue wave, what happens to Elon Musk and SpaceX?

According to Ars Technica, a historic Democratic wave in Texas elections has removed most of Elon Musk's political allies in the state, where he has concentrated SpaceX operations and invested heavily in Republican campaigns. Musk moved to Texas in 2020 and expanded SpaceX facilities, including Starship development at Starbase, a Starlink factory near Austin, and a planned 100-million-square-foot manufacturing complex. He spent nearly half a billion dollars on Republican candidates in the 2026 midterms, with about half directed to Texas races.

Following the election, Musk was unusually quiet on his social media platform X, later posting about space-based data centers. Analysts suggest he may either deepen ties with remaining Republicans or moderate politically, while Democrats must decide whether to investigate or negotiate with him given his domestic manufacturing investments. SpaceX is unlikely to relocate its Texas headquarters soon due to entrenched operations. Musk's focus appears to be on advancing orbital data centers amid potential regulatory pressure on terrestrial projects.
