Tesla wants to sell you an unusable car with no steering wheel this year

According to Electrek, Tesla plans to deliver Cybercab vehicles to customers by the end of 2026, but its unsupervised full self-driving software is not expected until mid-2027. This would leave a six-month period where the vehicles, which lack steering wheels and pedals, cannot be operated by their owners.

During the company's third-quarter conference call, a vice president of engineering said Cybercabs would reach customer hands this year while the chief executive added they would mainly serve a Tesla-owned transport service. The autonomous software currently operates only in limited areas across six cities in two states, with an estimated 300 vehicles in the most developed market. Tesla also stated it will not provide customer access to that software until the 2027 timeline.
