Tesla’s ‘Emergency Drive Away’ function gets its first use in the real world
Tesla's Emergency Drive Away function was used for the first time in the real world, but apparently by accident, according to Teslarati. A driver in Austin during the F1 race weekend accidentally activated the feature while charging, causing the vehicle to drive away with the Supercharger connector attached and damaging both the car and the charger.
Tesla says repairs could cost up to $25,000 and the driver is responsible for all costs if not used in a genuine emergency. Acceptable justifications include immediate threat to life or safety, needing to leave immediately, unsafe to exit the vehicle, or unplugging would unreasonably delay departure. After use, Tesla requires a service inspection.
Teslarati also reports the next-generation Roadster was spotted at SpaceX's Hawthorne headquarters two weeks after its unveiling. The Roadster uses SpaceX cold gas thrusters with production planned for 2028. Meanwhile, Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile are asking the FCC to remove 290 MHz from a satellite spectrum proposal before a vote on October 29.
