Tesla Cybercabs take over Austin’s F1 weekend

Tesla deployed a record number of driverless Cybercabs during Austin's Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend, using the event as the fleet's largest public stress test. According to Teslarati, sightings hit 1,250 on Saturday, surpassing the previous high of 1,072, while the Texas registry showed 463 Cybercabs by Sunday. The service area was expanded around the circuit with rides until 1 a.m., though not all drop-offs reached the main gate.

The weekend also introduced new passenger features. Riders can now access a live rear-camera feed on the center display during trips, and a quiet mode darkens the screen. The rear-view function, requested earlier this month, was released in about two weeks and addresses the Cybercab's lack of mirrors or rear windows. Tesla's AI team used Grok to optimize the camera tuning, and Grok Bot is now active across the Cybercab and Model Y Robotaxi fleets.

Tesla has not disclosed total ride counts or whether extended hours will remain. Executives indicated 2 a.m. service is coming soon, with around-the-clock operation targeted before year-end. The company aims to deliver first customer-owned Cybercabs before 2026 ends, though it has not confirmed if the new features will reach Model Y Robotaxis.
