Tesla makes good on its Cybercab promise in just two weeks

Tesla has added a live rear camera view and a quiet mode to its Cybercab robotaxis in Austin, fulfilling a rider request made two weeks earlier. The camera feed appears on the center display during trips and can be expanded to show other exterior cameras, addressing the vehicle's lack of mirrors, rear window, or steering wheel. Quiet mode darkens the screen for passengers who want to relax or avoid bright light at night. According to Teslarati, a Tesla AI engineer said the camera tuning was optimized using Grok.

During the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend, Cybercab sightings reached a record 1,250 in one day, with 463 vehicles registered in Texas. Service hours were extended to 1 a.m. and the operating zone expanded around the circuit. Tesla plans to deliver Cybercabs to customers before the end of 2026 and aims to run robotaxi service around the clock before the year ends.
